Aerometrix evolved from our decades of research work designing, building and using laser-based optical spectrometers to measure greenhouse gases. Through Geoscience BC/ Western Economic Diversification Canada funding, our GHGMap technology project combined the patented, micro-laser sensor developed by our NASA-JPL colleague L. Christensen with our state-of-the-art small Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (sUAVs), operated by the Canadian company InDro Robotics Inc.
Building on our research success creating our GasMap© and FluxCurtain© gas measurement methodologies, Aerometrix was formed in 2019 to offer commercial, aerial gas measurement surveys and audits. We have conducted surveys with sUAV over 100s of different emission sources, including landfills, sewage treatment plants, dairy farms, hydroelectric dams, but especially over natural gas facilities, such as gas wells, processing plants, and pipelines.
Our technology has also been proven in calibrated trials such as the Alberta Methane Field Challenge (AMFC 2019) and US Methane Emissions Technology Evaluation Center (METEC). We have conducted natural gas surveys for several clients including Shell, FortisBC, Cambrian (PO&G), ARC Resources, Progress Energy (Petronas Energy) and AltaGas
